The car was first on the road in 1986 & has about 50,000 miles on
it (the last 15,000 have been reported to be HARD ones?????????)
I bought the car in the fall of 1997.
Returning Home from the ESRA run in 99 I had a piece on road debris puncture
my rad. Some plumbers puddy did the trick for the rest of 99 & 2000.
The winter of 2000 – 2001 the radiator was replaced & the heads were rebuilt with brass sleeves install in the guides.
The fall of 2001 I had a catastrophic engine failure, requiring a rebuild.
1 Piston destroyed & 3 others distressed, however there was no block
damage thus the 4 pistons & new bearings and rings, put us back on the
road. The transmission was overhauled at the same time, which was about to
fail as well.
Fall of 2002 leaving the FSRA monthly meeting at West Jet, required a small
burnout, which turned out to be the straw that broke the Camels back. The
rear four bar mounts gave out and had to be replaced, so out came the whole
rear end. The housing was bent & the bearing flange that had been cut
off to narrow the rear end was not vertical, so the housing was straightened,
the flange was redone & the center section was rebuilt.
I am hopping to get a full season out of it this year, as I have some bodywork to do next winter. – Doug –
